The special needs teacher will work a team setting and would have specific roles including:

1. Ability to combine knowledge of various disabilities such as visual impairment, autism etc with practical procedures for teaching science, math and reading skills to students with special needs.
Helping pupils to cope with problems that arise as a result of impairments or learning difficulties.
Teaching the children, either in a separate room or with the other pupils.
Liaising with other professionals such as psychologists, phsiotherap and speech and language therapists.
Adapting the National Curriculum and conventional teaching methods to meet individual needs.
Using audio-visual materials and computers to stimulate interest and learning.
The ideal candidate for this important post would have:

A genuine compassion for children with disabilities
A strong belief in the power of education in furthering the kingdom of God
Hi level of patience and creativity, with an ability to understand and motivate students by expressing complex ideas using a variety of exercises and techniques.
Excellent inter-personal skills and the ability to work well in a team and create consensus.
A degree in an educational field is desirable; a non-educational field would be acceptable if there has already been other involvement in education.
